Rachael Helms, MSW, LISW-S, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Western Michigan University.
Upon completion of her Master’s degree in Social Work, Rachael went on to provide mental health services to children, adolescents and their families in community mental health settings for ADD/ADHD, divorce transitions, grief, family conflict and a variety of mood disorders . Rachael has received extensive post-graduate training in system-based treatment for high-risk oppositional and defiant youth. Rachael has provided int ensive outpatient services to youth and their families utilizing Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST), an evidenced based treatment program.
Rachael’s belief that families are a necessary and powerful component of achieving success drives her use of family therapy as a primary component of treatment. Building on each individual’s and family’s strength allows for short-term, solution focused progress with the goal of independent sustainability at the end of treatment.
Along with several colleagues, Rachael is available through Stepping Stones Counseling Center to provide outpatient counseling to children over the age of 8, adolescents and families to treat ADD/ADHD, anxiety, divorce transitions, family conflict, stress management, oppositional & defiant behaviors and mood disorders, including depression. Rachael has completed advanced training in treatment of postpartum mood disorders through The Postpartum Stress Center in Philadelphia, PA and is offering the following postpartum and pregnan cy related treatment options:
- Diagnostic assessment for postpartum mood disorders
- Risk assessment and counseling for women with a history of emotional illness who are preparing for pregnancy
- Psychotherapy for depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy
- Support services for partners of women with postpartum mood disorders
- Collaboration with Primary Care Physicians, OB/GYNs and/or Psychiatrists
